musical literature

A lot of books in the last year or so have circled around music - rock, hip-hop, heavy metal...
Here are some of them:

Born to Rock by Gordon Korman
High school senior Leo Caraway, a conservative Republican, is horrified to learn that his biological father is a punk rock legend

Heavy Metal and You by Christopher Krovatin
High schooler Sam begins losing himself when he meets a preppy girl who wants him to give up getting wasted with his friends and his passion for heavy metal music.

King Dork by Frank Portman
The book is about Tom "Chi-Mo" Henderson, the self proclaimed "King Dork" who muddles through high school with his one best friend, Sam Hellerman. Tom is in a band and throughout the book, he and his friends are constantly changing the band's name. Tom also seems to have trouble with the opposite sex, as well as getting over his father's death, which may have been a murder, or a suicide. Tom is a major rock fan, who feels that the book Catcher in the Rye may hold the key to life's secrets.

Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan
Nick O'Leary, member of a rock band playing in NYC's downtown music scene, meets Norah Silverberg and asks her to be his girlfriend for 5 minutes so he can avoid his ex-girlfriend. Five minutes becomes a night with a killer playlist.

Hip Hop High School by Alan Lawrence Sitomer
Theresa Anderson is a student at an inner-city high school in California. As her friends and classmates drop out, and surrounded by violence and poverty, she continues on her college bound course, supported by her family, loving hip-hop music and battling the haters who are trying to beat people down.

Fat Kid Rules the World by K.L. Going
Troy is a 300 pound, 6'1" seventeen year old, living in Manhattan with his father and younger brother. He is miserable and lonely and is on a subway platform considering suicide, when a very thin kid talks to him, and asks him to be the drummer in this new punk band he's about to start. Can the Fat Kid do it?
