Teen Health & Wellness: Real Life, Real Answers

Teen Health and Wellness Database

We now have access to a new award-winning database, specifically to answer teens' health and wellness questions.

The Teen Health and Wellness Database can be accessed either in the library, or from your home computer. It offers:
- comprehensive articles about issues essential to teen health and well-being
- regularly updated homepage features connecting medical news and social issues to database articles
- automatically generated citations for use in school papers, plus the ability to print and e-mail articles
- resource sections with Web sites, organizations and recommended reading
- interactive polls and quizzes
- authentic, first-person teen narratives
- listings of national 24-hour hotlines for teens in crises.

You can search by keyword, or go in through the main category headings, which include:

* Diseases, Infections and Conditions
* Diversity

Patchogue Medford Teens Top Ten

The American Library Association hasn't posted their teens top ten list yet, but the votes are in and counted here in Patchogue Medford.

And our winners are:


Born to Rock by Gordon Korman - 7 votes

Book Survivor V: LOL@PML: First Vote Off!!!!

Our very first vote off from the new Book Survivor is.....


Son of the Mob by Gordon Korman.


This very entertaining book features a teenage boy who is just trying to fit in. He wants a girlfriend, and to simply survive high school. But his life is complicated just a bit by his family who are tied to the Mob.

There is sequel to this book called Son of the Mob: Hollywood Hustle.

This is where you get to tell the American Library Association what books you liked best this year! You also get to help choose the theme for next year's Teen Read Week.

Our ballot box is open at the Library, too! Come in and fill one out so we can determine what the Patchogue-Medford Teens Top Ten books are.

The reporting cards for Teen Read Week will be available at the YA Desk, starting Sunday, October 14. For each book you report on, you can pick something from our special LOL@PML prize box (hint: the prizes are all themed to match the Laugh Out Loud theme)or, if you prefer, you can get 2 library dollars per book. Library dollars can be redeemed at the main desk, just like cash, to pay any fines or to purchase earbuds or memory sticks.

31 Flavors



The readergirlz divas and YALSA will be hosting 31 of your flavorite authors for 31 days in October -- all in honor of Teen Read Week.
